Just like fats, carbs have a horrible reputation in regard to trying to lose weight. Just do any quick “low carb diet” search on your favorite search engine and you’ll find millions of results. However, just because it’s on the Internet, that doesn’t mean it’s true. What is true is that, just like fats, you need healthy carbs to not only stay healthy, but also effectively lose weight.
The right types of carbs, known as resistant starches, provide a variety of important benefits. For one thing, they fill you up and keep you feeling full longer. Since you aren’t as apt to get hungry, you aren’t as apt to overeat. They also release fatty acids, which speed up your metabolism and encourage weight loss. This type of weight loss is from fat alone, as healthy carbs preserve muscle weight. Resistant starches also help to regulate your blood sugar levels, improve your immune system, and keep your body operating at its full potential.
